Close-up of Air conditioner

With heat advisories becoming a regular way of life this summer in Rhode Island, have you been struggling to stay comfortable at home? While traditional air conditioners have long been the go-to system for home cooling, mini split heat pumps offer a modern solution that can improve your whole-home comfort and efficiency.

CARJON has been a leading HVAC installer in Rhode Island since 1989, and we offer comprehensive AC services statewide. Our team of HVAC specialists work with a wide range of cooling systems, including both air conditioners and mini splits. We start every job with an in-home assessment and can help determine if mini splits are a good choice for your home’s specific needs.

     1.Year-Round Comfort

Mini splits are a type of heat pump, which means they work to both heat and cool your home by moving heat rather than creating it. At CARJON, we install Mitsubishi Electric ductless systems because they offer superior performance throughout the year and can even work in below freezing temperatures. Some homeowners also pair mini splits with a furnace during the winter for what’s known as dual fuel heating.

     2.Ductless Operation

Mini splits don’t require ductwork to deliver warmed or cooled air throughout your home. Instead, they use individual air handlers strategically placed throughout your living spaces. Poorly installed or leaky ductwork can lead to significant energy loss and numerous indoor air quality issues, making mini splits a good choice for your home’s health and efficiency. This also makes mini splits the better option for older homes that may have outdated ductwork or no ducts at all.

     3. Unmatched Efficiency

In addition to the energy savings from their ductless operation, mini splits are equipped with features that can further contribute to improved cooling efficiency. Most air conditioners have single-speed compressors, which means that they can give all or nothing. Mini splits, however, often come with variable-speed compressors, allowing them to operate at the exact power needed to cool your home. Most mini split heat pumps also have higher Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) ratings compared to air conditioners, making them the overall more efficient choice.

     4. Zoned Heating & Cooling

Each mini split air handler is placed in a specific area or room in your home and can be individually controlled. This gives you the opportunity to cool down the rooms you’re using and not waste energy cooling down the rooms you’re not. Most home zoning systems also require invasive installation while mini splits only need a small hole in the wall.

     5. Available Incentives

While both heat pumps and air conditioners are eligible for incentives in Rhode Island, heat pumps qualify for higher savings with local rebate programs due to their environmentally friendliness. Homeowners upgrading their heating and cooling system with a mini split can save with Inflation Reduction Act tax credits, along with rebates through Energy RI and Clean Heat Rhode Island. The team at CARJON can help you determine exactly how much you can save during an in-home assessment!
